(–)

On a Casio calculator you can enter a minus sign

(−)

Example 1

To calculate 5 × −2 = −10

  -2
-10.
5 × (−) 2 =

Example 2

To calculate 2−1 = 0.5

  2xy-1
0.5
2 Xy (−) 1 =

Example 3

To store the value −123 in variable A

  -123→A
-123.
(−) 1 2 3 STO  A

Example 4

To calculate cos-1(−1) = π

SHIFT cos⁻¹E   cos-1 -1
  3.141592654
        cos (−) 1 =

Example 5

To calculate (−2)4 = 16

  (-2)xy4
16.
( (−) 2 ) Xy 4 =

When a calculation contains an argument that is a negative number, this negative number must be enclosed within brackets. The negative sign (−) is treated as a type B function, so particular care is required when the calculation includes a high priority type A function, or power or root operation.

Example 6

A negative sign cannot be used to perform a subtraction

  2-1_
0.
   Syn ERROR

2 (−) 1 =

Example 7

To calculate 2 − − 1 = 3

  2− -1_
3.
2 (−) 1 =

Example 8

To calculate 3 × 5 × 10−9 = 1.5 × 10−8

  3×5E - 9
1.5 -08
3 × 5 EXP (−) 9 =
